Dry Eye Syndrome PDF Print E-mail

Dry Eye Syndrome:  Dry eyes can  occur for no reason at all or from secondary causes such as diet, medications and even underlying systemic illnesses. Treatment: artificial tears, topical corticosteroids, Restasis® and punctal occlusion.  Unfortunately these treatments do not cure the syndrome but can make symptoms “bearable”. Changes in diet such as drinking more water, avoiding caffeine and environments which exacerbate the problem (e.g. air-conditioning, ceiling fans) and taking dietary supplements like flax seed oil or omega-3 fatty acids can help as well.
